Replace Background strips the background from an image and replaces it with a new one based on your description. The subject stays intact and the AI generates a new background that blends naturally. This is a direct canvas operation, so you do not need to send a prompt to the agent.
Using canvas tools directly gives you more control and uses significantly fewer credits than sending a prompt to the agent. For background replacement, always use this tool instead of asking the agent.

How to replace a background

Select an image on the canvas

Open the canvas in the side panel and click the image whose background you want to replace. The image editing toolbar appears.

Click BG Replace

In the toolbar, click the BG Replace button.

Describe the new background

Type a description of the background you want. Be specific about the setting, colors, lighting, and mood.

Click Apply

The AI removes the existing background and generates the new one in a single step. A new image appears on the canvas with your subject on the new background.

What you cannot do

  • You cannot keep part of the original background. The entire background is replaced.
  • You cannot use a specific image as the new background. The background is generated from your text description. If you need to composite onto an existing image, use Remove Background for a transparent PNG and combine them in another tool.
  • You cannot adjust the blending or edge quality after replacement. If edges are not clean, try Mark & Edit to refine specific areas.
  • You cannot replace the background on a video frame. This tool works on images only.
