Remove Background detects the subject of an image and removes everything else, leaving the subject on a transparent background. This is a direct canvas operation, so you do not need to send a prompt to the agent.
Using canvas tools directly gives you more control and uses significantly fewer credits than sending a prompt to the agent. For background removal, always use this tool instead of asking the agent.

How to remove a background

1

Select an image on the canvas

Open the canvas in the side panel and click the image you want to edit. The image editing toolbar appears.

2

Click BG Remove

In the toolbar, click the BG Remove button. The AI processes the image.
3

Review the result

A new image appears on the canvas with the background removed and the subject isolated on a transparent background. Your original image is preserved as a separate item on the canvas.

Remove Background creates a new canvas item. It does not overwrite the original. You always keep both versions.

When to use this

  • Isolating a product for use on a website or marketing material.
  • Extracting a person or object to place on a different background.
  • Preparing images for compositing or layering in other tools.
  • Creating transparent PNGs for use in presentations, documents, or social media.

What you cannot do

  • You cannot remove the background from a video. This tool works on images only.
  • You cannot select which parts of the background to keep. The AI removes the entire background.
  • You cannot adjust the edge quality or feathering after removal. If the edges are not clean, try Mark & Edit for more precise control.
