TL;DR

  • Default subdomain – Instant, editable, HTTPS automatic
  • Custom domain – Add 3 DNS records (CNAME + 2 TXT types)
  • SSL/HTTPS – Automatic via Cloudflare (no setup needed)
  • Verification – Real-time status checking with refresh button

Default Subdomain (Instant)

What You Get:
  • Unique subdomain assigned when you create your website
  • Format: your-site.runable.site
  • Works immediately (no DNS setup needed)
  • HTTPS enabled automatically
Can You Change It ?
  • Yes! Edit your subdomain anytime in Website Settings
  • Requirements: 3-63 characters, globally unique
  • Changes apply instantly

Custom Domain (Bring Your Own)

Connect Your Domain:
  1. Click “Connect to existing domain” in Domain Settings
  2. Enter your domain (e.g., www.example.com or example.com)
  3. We’ll show you exactly what DNS records to add
  4. Add those records to your domain registrar
  5. Wait for DNS propagation (usually a few minutes, up to 48 hours)
  6. Click “Refresh” to verify status
Requirements:
  • Own a domain from any registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, etc.)
  • Minimum 3 characters
  • One custom domain per website

DNS Records to Add

When you connect a custom domain, you’ll need to add 3 types of DNS records at your domain registrar: 1. CNAME Record (points your domain to us)
Type: CNAME
Name: www.example.com (or your subdomain)
Value: {your-deployment-id}.runable.site
2. Ownership Verification TXT Record
Type: TXT
Name: (provided by system)
Value: (provided by system)
Verifies you own the domain 3. SSL Validation TXT Records
Type: TXT
Name: (multiple records provided)
Value: (unique values for each)
Enables automatic HTTPS certificate
Quick Links Provided:We give you direct links to add DNS records on:
  • GoDaddy
  • Namecheap
  • Cloudflare
  • Porkbun

SSL/TLS (HTTPS) – Automatic

What We Handle:
  • SSL certificate generation (automatically)
  • Certificate renewal (automatically)
  • TLS 1.2+ encryption
  • DV (Domain Validation) via TXT records
  • No configuration needed from you
When Is It Active ?HTTPS works as soon as DNS verification completesCertificate typically issues within minutes of DNS propagationCloudflare manages all SSL/TLS infrastructure

DNS Propagation

  • Typically: 5-30 minutes
  • Maximum: Up to 48 hours (depends on your DNS provider)
Tip: Use a DNS checker tool to track propagation globally
  • Your domain registrar updates DNS servers worldwide
  • Cloudflare detects the changes
  • SSL certificate is automatically issued
  • Status changes from “Pending” to “Active”

Managing Your Domains

Making changes to your domain setup is straightforward. Here’s how each option works.

Changing Your Custom Domain

You can update your custom domain whenever you need to. When you make the switch, we automatically remove the old domain from our system (unless it’s connected to another site you own). After adding the new domain, you’ll set up fresh DNS records and go through the verification process one more time.

Removing Your Custom Domain

If you no longer need a custom domain, click “Remove” in your Domain Settings. The change takes effect immediately, and your website switches back to its default Runable subdomain. You can then delete the DNS records from your registrar if you’d like, though this step is optional.

Changing Your Default Subdomain

Want a different Runable subdomain ? Edit it directly in Website Settings. Your new subdomain must be unique across all Runable sites and between 3 to 63 characters long. Unlike custom domains, subdomain changes happen instantly with no DNS configuration required.
ActionWhat HappensDNS Required
Change custom domainOld domain removed, new domain needs verificationYes
Remove custom domainWebsite reverts to default subdomainNo (optional cleanup)
Change default subdomainInstant update, must be globally uniqueNo

Common Issues & Solutions

 Double-check record values (copy/paste exactly)
  • Wait longer (up to 48 hours)
  • Use DNS checker tool to verify propagation
  • Contact your registrar if records not updating
  • Ensure all TXT records are added correctly
  • Wait for DNS propagation
  • Check if registrar supports TXT records (most do)
  • Subdomain must be globally unique
  • Try a different subdomain variation
  • Custom domains are per-user, so your own domain will work

Best Practices

  1. Use wwwSubdomain – Easier DNS setup than naked domains (example.com)
  2. Copy/Paste DNS Values – Avoid typos (they break verification)
  3. Wait for Propagation – Don’t panic if it takes a few hours
  4. Keep DNS Records – Don’t delete until you’re sure you want to disconnect
  5. Use Fast DNS Provider – Cloudflare DNS typically propagates fastest
