# How Credits Work

> Learn how Monthly Credits, Lifetime Credits, and Daily Credits work in Runable.

# How Credits Work

Runable uses a **credit-based system** to power AI generations. Every task you perform—whether it's creating a website, generating a document, producing a video, or editing an application—consumes credits.

The number of credits used depends on the complexity of the task, the AI models involved, and the computing resources required.

## Credit Types

There are **three types of credits** in Runable.

<CardGroup cols={3}>
  <Card title="Monthly Credits" icon="calendar">
    Included with your subscription and refreshed every billing cycle.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Lifetime Credits" icon="coins">
    Purchased separately as one-time top-ups and never expire.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Daily Credits" icon="sparkles">
    Complimentary credits refreshed every 24 hours on eligible plans.
  </Card>

# Monthly Credits

Monthly Credits are included with every paid subscription.

These credits:

* Refresh every billing cycle
* Can be used anytime during your subscription period
* Do **not** roll over to the next month
* Expire at the end of your billing cycle

> **Example**
>
> If your subscription includes **25,000 Monthly Credits**, you can:
>
> * Use all 25,000 credits in a single day
> * Or spread them across your billing cycle

There is **no daily usage limit** for Monthly Credits.

***

# Lifetime Credits

Lifetime Credits are purchased separately through **Credit Top-Ups**.

Unlike Monthly Credits, Lifetime Credits:

* Never expire
* Stay on your account until used
* Are not tied to your billing cycle
* Are consumed after your available Monthly Credits

<Info>
  Lifetime Credits require an **active subscription** to be used.
</Info>

***

# Daily Credits

Some subscription plans include **Daily Credits**.

These credits are provided as an additional benefit and refresh every 24 hours.

Example:

* 1,500 Daily Credits

Daily Credits:

* Refresh automatically every day
* Expire if unused
* Cannot be carried over

***

# Which Credits Are Used First?

Credits are consumed in the following order:

1. Daily Credits
2. Monthly Credits
3. Lifetime Credits

This ensures your Monthly Credits are used before your permanent Lifetime Credits.

***

# Why Do Different Tasks Use Different Credits?

Not every AI task consumes the same number of credits.

Credit usage depends on several factors, including:

* Prompt complexity
* Number of files modified
* AI model used
* Images generated
* Videos generated
* Code generation
* Research performed
* External integrations
* Number of retries

For example:

| Task                        | Typical Credit Usage |
| --------------------------- | -------------------- |
| Small UI change             | Low                  |
| Website page generation     | Medium               |
| Full application generation | High                 |
| Image generation            | Medium               |
| Video generation            | High                 |

<Warning>
  Video generation is one of the most resource-intensive features on Runable and generally consumes more credits than text or code generation.
</Warning>

# Common Misunderstandings

## Can I use all my Monthly Credits in one day?

Yes.

If you have 150,000 Monthly Credits available, you may use all of them in a single day.

***

## Do Monthly Credits roll over?

No.

Unused Monthly Credits expire when your billing cycle ends.

***

## Do Lifetime Credits expire?

No.

Lifetime Credits remain available until they are used.

***

## Why can't I use Lifetime Credits without a subscription?

Lifetime Credits are additional credits added to your account, but an **active subscription** is required to access Runable's AI services and infrastructure.

***

## Do Daily Credits accumulate?

No.

Daily Credits refresh every 24 hours and expire if they are not used.

***

## Why did one prompt consume so many credits?

AI tasks are charged based on the computing resources required—not simply the length of your prompt.

Even a short prompt can consume more credits if it requires:

* Large code changes
* Video generation
* Multiple AI models
* Complex reasoning
* Many file modifications

# Best Practices

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Be Specific">
    Provide detailed prompts with examples and constraints to reduce unnecessary retries.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Break Large Tasks">
    Instead of asking the AI to rebuild an entire application, split the work into smaller steps.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Review Before Retrying">
    If the result isn't exactly what you expected, refine the prompt before generating again.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Use Lifetime Credits Wisely">
    Lifetime Credits never expire, making them ideal for larger projects beyond your monthly allocation.
